When should I purchase NetScaler SDX?

NetScaler SDX is the primary component that enables organizations who use Citrix technologies to ensure that the architecture of their environment is compliant to their industry security mandates.  What you may not know is that many organizations that DO NOT use other Citrix technologies leverage NetScaler SDX to help them to attain and retain compliance.

So when should you consider NetScaler SDX rather than NetScaler MPX or VPX?  This question typically begins with the question of security and what your organizational security requirements are.  If you require high levels of security and also desire to extend services/data/applications outside of your organization’s private network, NetScaler SDX may be a fit.  If in the simplest of scenarios the previous sentence rings true for your organization, the consideration of NetScaler SDX may become an economic decision.  The reason for this is because the cost point to deliver the solution via SDX versus MPX or VPX becomes nearly even.  While the cost is similar, the organizational, security, and functional value of NetScaler SDX quickly supersedes the cost savings and this then becomes a conversation about value that the appliance offers outside of the immediate and justifying need.  Then we transition to the conversation of how the SDX architecture facilitates other organizational objectives without requiring incremental purchase.  Those objectives could include multi-tenancy, service level isolation, test/dev/qa, cloud initiatives and workloads, application and desktop virtualization, Single Sign On, and the list goes on.
