VMWare Axes 56 Products in Overhaul

“Techquake: VMware Axes 56 Products in Monumental Infrastructure Overhauls”

Bid Farewell to vSphere Hypervisor, Aria Operations, NCX, HCX, and a Symphony of Acronyms, Decoded by Broadcom”

In a recent development, LKMethod has positioned itself as a comprehensive solution provider, offering a suite of services aimed at assisting businesses impacted by Broadcom’s decisive actions regarding VMware’s product portfolio. This move comes in the wake of VMware’s confirmation, on January 15, that it is discontinuing 56 products and platforms, marking them as “End of Availability.”

Previously sourced from a now-deleted VMware KB advisory, the list of affected products encompasses a wide range, from network and security virtualization platform NSX to the application mobility platform HCX and the “multi-cloud” platform bundle vSphere+, among others. Despite the termination of various licensing options, including Perpetual, Support & Subscription (SnS), SaaS/hosted, and subscription, these products continue to be prominently featured on corporate websites.

Broadcom, having acquired VMware for $69 billion in November 2023, is aggressively streamlining the product portfolio to focus on what it considers to be the best technology. The termination of perpetual licenses and the push towards subscription models indicate Broadcom’s strategic intent to cater to large corporate clients and extract maximum value from VMware’s virtualization technology.

Notably, the lack of clarity on future pricing and products has left customers and channel partners uncertain about the implications of Broadcom’s strategic overhaul. In response to inquiries, Broadcom stated that, at the time of renewal, customers would be presented with the best subscription products tailored to their needs.

This significant shift orchestrated by Broadcom has triggered ripple effects in the market, prompting analysts to anticipate a “tectonic shift” in the infrastructure market. According to analysts at investment bank William Blair, Nutanix appears poised to capitalize on the market disruption, with resellers increasingly favoring Nutanix Cloud Platform and Nutanix AHV as alternatives to VMware.

Meanwhile, Broadcom is actively seeking to divest VMware’s “end-user” computing unit, which includes Workspace ONE and Horizon offerings. This move has attracted interest from private equity firms, with reported valuations reaching $5 billion.

As businesses grapple with the implications of Broadcom’s actions, LKMethod stands out as a strategic alternative, offering a suite of solutions to navigate the evolving landscape.
