First is to allow easier management and secure access to applications and desktops on the floor or in a call center; a great deal of organizations in this industry are currently using Citrix for this type of need.  Citrix can also be used to extend the life and reduce the support burden of PC Hardware that is placed at the desk locations.  Citrix is also an obvious choice for computer labs as the systems can be refreshed with a simple reboot and very easily updated.

The technical components are certainly a concern for Education Institutions, however our experience is that they are typically equally concerned about the user or student experience using the provided technologies.  Leveraging a properly architected Citrix environment also provides transparent and seamless usage for the end users of the environment. Very importantly though, the security mandates must be adhered to in all situations – which Citrix enables.

Security & Compliance

Educational organizations are largely concerned about security and we have vast expertise in architecting the Citrix environment to adhere-to and enforce HIPAA/PCI Compliance. In fact, most of the financial organizations we enter do not have a high-security Citrix deployment. In addition to architecting a secure Citrix deployment, we have successfully provided Web Application Firewall capabilities to front-end many at-risk applications using Citrix assets already owned.

What is HIPAA Compliance?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) sets the standard for sensitive patient data protection. Companies that deal with protected health information (PHI) must have physical, network, and process security measures in place and follow them to ensure HIPAA Compliance. Covered entities (anyone providing treatment, payment, and operations in healthcare) and business associates (anyone who has access to patient information and provides support in treatment, payment, or operations) must meet HIPAA Compliance. Other entities, such as subcontractors and any other related business associates must also be in compliance.

Our Solution Deployments

County School District – Visions Upgrade

Designed and implemented a computing architecture based on Citrix XenApp, Citrix Web Interface, and Citrix Access Gateway to support over 400 concurrent employees spread across Maricopa County to access their primary district application.

Higher Education – Remote Computing

Designed and implemented a computing architecture based on Citrix XenApp 6.5, Citrix StoreFront, and Citrix NetScaler using Access Gateway to support over 500 concurrent students spread across the Southwest.

Higher Education – NetScaler Redesign

Designed and implemented a new high-security fully redundant computing architecture based on Citrix NetScaler architecture using the Citrix Dual-Farm/Dual-Zone reference architecture. This implementation included five pairs (10) NetScaler devices split across two datacenters.  One pair outside in an unsecured DMZ the other in a secured DMZ internally at each datacenter.  The project leveraged GSLB (Global Server LoadBalancing) both inside and outside for full environment failover.  Additionally, Double-Hop SSL, application firewall, SQL Load Balancing, Web and Application Load Balancing, and SSL Offload were deployed.  All technologies were deployed to interface with current applications, networks, and Citrix infrastructure.

Higher Education – Web Farm Front-end

Designed and implemented a new high-security fully redundant computing architecture based on Citrix NetScaler architecture using the Citrix Dual-Farm/Dual-Zone reference architecture. This implementation included one pair (2) NetScaler SDX 11515 devices with multiple NetScaler Instances in a single datacenter with a single NetScaler VPX200 in the alternate datacenter.  Double-Hop SSL, SSL Offload, and redirection were deployed to support access to MS Lync, MS OWA/Exchange, MS SharePoint, SQL Load Balancing, and customized industry applications to support over 25000 students and employees.  All technologies were deployed to interface with current applications, networks, and infrastructure.

Higher Education – Web Farm Front-end

Designed and implemented a new high-security computing architecture based on Citrix NetScaler SDX architecture using the Citrix Dual-Zone reference architecture. This implementation included one pair (2) NetScaler SDX 11520 devices with multiple NetScaler Instances in a single datacenter.  Double-Hop SSL, SSL Offload, Persistency Groups, and redirection were deployed to support access to internally-developed  applications to support over 35000 students and employees.  All technologies were deployed to interface with current applications, networks, and infrastructure.
